My research interest is to discover the molecular, synaptic mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which is a group of neurodevelopmental disorders with significant genetic heterogeneity and strong comorbidities, such as intellectual disability (ID) and epilepsy. The core deficits of ASD are impaired social interaction and communication and repetitive and restricted behavioral patterns. These deficits begin in early childhood , persist and interfere with daily living. Presently, there is no known cure treatment for ASD. An extremely urgent undertaking in ASD studies is to discover novel, mechanism-based interventions for this devastating mental disorder that currently lacks effective treatment. Functional characterization of the high-risk genes will help to discover novel mechanisms-based interventions.
